My name is Jonathan, and my passion is personal finance. Professionally, I have a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in finance and years of experience working for a major financial institution helping consumer clients reach their financial goals and business owners optimize their working capital. As I progressed through my career, I realized that the basic fundamentals of personal finance are foreign to many. Whether it’s bad advice from friends or family, or a lack of knowledge, sometimes your inability to reach your goals is because the process you’re using is broken. This is where my passion comes from. In my 20’s I had credit card debt, car payment, little to no savings, and monthly rent. On the bright side I had a steady job, but I was always one payment away from losing everything. In this time, I had to seriously investigate my finances because this wasn’t the life I wanted to lead. I pictured myself having nice cars, owning a home, and going on lavish vacations with my family. I knew that if I didn’t shape up, this would be an unattainable feat. I began by investing in myself. Reading self-help books and actually applying the information I was beginning to learn. It was a tough process because I looked crazy to the people I cared about the most. I sold my brand new Lexus and started driving an old Toyota. I stopped eating out and I started to pay attention to where every cent was going. What was most impactful for me is when I became debt free, attained excellent credit, and bought my home, the people who looked at me like I was crazy started to see the method to my madness. Normal in our society is to carry large amounts of debt, live check to check and have no plans for retirement. Be different. Be weird. You just might change the cycle.
